Georgia Research Center of Lanzhou University is established in March,2017,which is a professional academic institution .At the same time, the research center becomes into the list of National and Regional Research Centers of the Ministry of Education of China. The director is Dr. Wang Jinguo and the team members are experts and scholars from various fields both domestically and abroad,such as Education, Economy, literature,Culture, linguistics,law and so on.
Part1. Introduction
Georgia is one of the important countries along the Belt and Road. It takes a very important role and has participated deeply in the Belt and Road Initiative and has held Belt and Road International Forums in the capital city Tbilisi for two consecutive years under the name of Georgian Central Government, which has great effects and far-reaching influence. Georgia has signed with China a free trade agreement that entered into force on January 1, 2018.It shows the strong desire of Georgian government to strengthen and develop the relation with China. However, the mutual understanding between the two countries is to deepen . Therefore, to strengthen the study of Georgia has important and practical significance for the development of the relation between the two countries.
Though Georgia is one of the countries along the Belt and Road and an important channel to connect Europe and Asia. In the past, there was not much exchanges between Georgia and China,and mutual understanding is not desirable. So the centre intends to conduct research in the following aspects to make more systematic results and by serving consultation for the Belt and Road Initiative to enhance mutual understanding.
Based on the national strategy, GRC provides intellectual support and decision-making consultation for the Belt and Road Initiative, focusing on the development of China-Georgia relation, Georgia’s foreign policy,economic policy and situation, Georgian culture, education and national personality. Through service of national strategy, the centre enhances the internationalization level and school-running level of Lanzhou University and contributes to build it into a world-class university. In the next three years it will organize an academic team with deep professionalism, reasonable structure and interdisciplinary research. It will produce a series of academic fruits on Georgia undertaking research on important national issues and develop concentrated academic direction with distinctive features so that it can go on a benign track for sustainable and sound development.
Relying on Confucius Institutes of Lanzhou University in Georgia working closely with Georgia-China Research Centre and Silk Cultural Research Centre there，GRC uses all available resources to strengthen special studies on Georgian economy, foreign policy, humanities and education.It strives to produce a series of academic reports to promote exchanges and interactions in these fields between the two countries.It is particularly necessary that GRC promotes effectively exchanges and interactions between personnel in higher education field.
Part 2.Research Areas of GRC
GRC, relying on comprehensive advantages of Lanzhou University, conducts a comprehensive study of Georgia including history of relationship between Georgia and China,Georgian history and geography,Georgian culture and traditions, Georgian national characters , Georgian economic development and China-Georgia economy and trade exchanges,Georgian education system and its characteristics, Georgian vocational system and its characteristics. The research also takes into account the basic theories and their applications.
Part3.Research Plans
In following years, GRC will produce a series research reports on Georgian humanities, geography,economics,education, tourism and reports in other aspects, explore their characteristics, find the best match with the centre, publish them by stages and steps, and provide relevant departmental decision-making references.In the next three years , the centre will conduct research step by step in sub-themes and strive to publish a monograph per year. In the first year, it plans to publish Blue Book on Georgia, obtaining important first-hand information and laying a solid foundation . It will allocate rationally research force, research time by setting up some special groups that conduct research separately, sharing out the work and cooperating with one another.
